As Halloween approaches, the excitement surrounding costumes grows, driven by pop culture trends, media releases, and timeless themes. These are the top most popular and trending Halloween costumes for 2024.
1. Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders: The Impact of a New Documentary
The recent release of a Netflix documentary titled Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders – America’s Sweethearts has brought interest in this iconic group. Their image represents not only sports but also a blend of performance art and spirit. This trend highlights sports, media, and fashion, appealing to both and those who admire the glamorous aspect of cheerleading, making it one of the top choices for Halloween costumes this year.
Abbey Adkins ‘28 says that she is going to be one of the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders this year.
“I really like the show, and I saw this costume on Pinterest and I thought it was really cute,” she explains.
2. Cheetahs: The TikTok Trend
The cheetah costume has gained popularity thanks to the viral TikTok trend and sound called Glamour. Cheetahs have become a symbol of fun and playfulness. For this costume, girls are taking any black skirt and wearing some sort of cheetah print top with cat ears. Many girls are choosing to wear this costume. Emily Mallal states that she is going to be a cheetah for halloween.
Emily states, “Yes, I found this idea on Social Media, specifically TikTok. And it made me want to do it myself.”
Dylan Miller ‘28 says that she will be a cheetah.
“I saw it on social media which is a great platform for sharing ideas, and it was super cute,” she said.
Overall cheetahs will be a really good costume, but be prepared to see many other girls in the same outfit.
3. Princess Costumes: Great for Groups
Princess costumes have always been a staple of Halloween celebrations. This costume is not only worn among young children; it is seen a lot within high school girls. The concept of dressing as a princess allows for a variety of interpretations, from classic fairy tale characters to bringing back childhood memories of playing dress up.
“Princesses have been a very popular costume for many years, especially last year. But still this year, I am seeing many girls and their friend groups dress up as them,” Emilia Baxter ‘25 said.
Emilia Baxter is not the only one who thinks that Princesses are going to be popular.
“The whole princess costume, cutesy with corsets will be really trending this year.” Iris Brue ’26 predicted.
Princess costumes are typically worn with a corset that matches the color of your princess’s dress, with a matching skirt, and finally a tiara that pulls the look together.
4. Barbie and Ken: Success in the Movies
Following the success of the “Barbie” movie, the iconic characters of Barbie and Ken have grown in popularity, becoming one of the top costume choices for 2024. Barbie and Ken have always been a dynamic duo, which makes them a great costume and easily customized to suit individual styles. Barbie’s costume is often worn with a signature pink dress paired with glamorous accessories, while Ken wears a stylish button-up with rolled sleeves and casual shorts.
For a more playful take, consider coordinating with vibrant colors and childish accessories. Their vibrant colors and nostalgic design appeal to a wide audience, making it perfect for couples or friends.
5. Men in Black: Iconic Sci-Fi Style
The “Men in Black” costume has been a go-to staple these past few years. “A costume that was popular in the past and always comes back is Men in Black, I feel like it’s just a classic,” Iris Brue ‘26 explained.
“Men in Black” is basic yet fun, whether you elevate it with a black skirt and blazer or opt for a classic black suit. For a more casual look, you can keep it simple with a standard black outfit paired with a tie and cool dark sunglasses.
6. Minions: The New Movie
The Minions costume has become a favorite in recent years, thanks to their fun energy and playfulness in the “Despicable Me” movie. These adorable little yellow creatures bring a sense of joy and silliness, making them a perfect choice for Halloween. Their instantly recognizable look of blue overalls, yellow skin, and signature goggles captures the essence of fun and friendship, and takes people back to a childhood favorite.
Emilia Baxter ‘25 states that she has always been a big Minion fan and will be dressing up as one for Halloween.
“We are planning on wearing denim skirts, yellow tops, and bedazzled goggles,” Baxter said.
The Minions costume is always a fun and memorable experience that’s sure to brighten any celebration.
